Since 2004, the AMSG course has experienced considerable evolution. Intent on being inclusive rather than exclusive, H2O's mechanized guide school is now open to any person with a desire to learn more about mechanized mountain access under the endorsement of the North America Outdoor Institute.

In June 2004, Dean Cummings founded a non-profit organization known as the North America Outdoor Institute (NAOI). With support from a group of concerned outdoor enthusiasts and H2O Guides professional outdoor safety educators, NAOI then developed Be Snow Smart, a free avalanche awareness program for teenagers to help reduce the rising avalanche accident rates in Alaska.
